Some of my best friends believe, as do I that when you are doing God's work, evil tries its best to stop you from doing good. Today, on the day before we leave for Russia for the third time and this time to get Julianna, we can see the evil.
Where to start? I'll start with Julianna first! Today I received a call and I was told that I may not have Julianna for at least 10 calendar days because she has...you guessed it...Chicken Pox. Not a rare and incurable form....just plain old chicken pox. Apparently she broke out last night in a rash and the "doctor" from the institution believes she is contagious for 10 days. I guess they don't practice the same type of medicine that we do in the US, as I was always told that once a person had the visual signs of a rash from Chicken Pox, he/she was no longer contagious. Svetlana said she will work very hard to get Julianna for us before August 15, but she will also not cause a scene since Americans are not favorite people of the Russians. Now, if the judge would only have waived the ten days, we would be beyond the Chicken pox by now.
So, Dominic and I are still planning to go to Russia tomorrow. However, we just learned today that our place in Moscow...our hotel or apartment has not been secured, which means we must now try to get a place. Kenny is talking with our adoption friends, the Bradys, to find out where they stayed.
Then there's the fires that are burning in Russia that are causing lots of smoke....so much so that as of today, the flights landing in the airport in which we are suppose to land are diverting to other airports...some flights are going to St. Petersburg, some to Kazan, and some to another location in Moscow. Of course after we checked with our travel agent, he indicated that by checking United Airlines website, we would know what the status of the flight would be as the pilots can decide just minutes before landing if the have enough visibility to land ...What does this mean for Dominic and me? UNCERTAINTY! We are hopeful that Dimetry will be able to get us as planned. WE are also taking lots of face masks to protect our breathing while we are in Nizhniy and Moscow. Sveta tells us that Nizhniy Novgorod region has the worst fires and smoke! UGH!
Then there's the notary...These last few days, we have been uncertain about which document needed to be notarized. Our coordinator here in the US said that this one particular document needed to be notarized. When we talked to the Bradys, Bill indicated that that document did NOT need to be notarized...only signed by Kenny ahead of time since he was not going to Moscow to complete the adoption. I do have Kenny's power of attorney and that was notarized...so I hope this is enough!
So...I believe this is a test. A test of our endurance...our faith...and our trust in God.
Our next entry may not be for a few days since we Dom and I are leaving tomorrow. As there is more to report...we will do so!
