Surprisingly, I had much more confidence landing and going through the immigration/customs at Moscow, Russia, then I thought i would. On the plane, i asked the flight attendant for the "registration" papers....something that I knew about only because i have done it now for three times. I filled out mine and Dom's. I also learned from watching the last time that we were here that it's okay for the Moms to handle/hold/maintain their child's passport when being checked. You guessed it, Dom was quite okay with me handling all this aspect of landing and getting out of the airport.
Traveling with Dominic will be interesting. As much as he wants Kenny and I to believe that he is a mature young adult, he has demonstrated some normal kid behavior thus far on the trip. Handling his passport was a task that he wasn't interested in doing. He also needed the computer to play games on it that he had pre-loaded before we left. He really didn't watch many movies on the way over. I thought it was particularly funny when he handed something to me....expecting me to hold it. I guess that's the "mom thing to do." When Dom finished eating, he folded up his lap tray and handed me his garbage, even though i wasn't finished. I encouraged him to hold it until the flight attendant came around or until I was done. :)
Dominic has also learned that the flight was a long one. He really didn't sleep on the way at all and now is dozing in the car as Dmitry drives away.
The smoke...it is atrocious here in Moscow. We could smell it in the plane as we descended. Dom said he doesn't mind the smell, but trust me, I don't have a "licata" nose and I think it is awful. Kenny, you definitely would be bothered by this smell. It hurts your eyes and throat. I can't imagine what it must smell like in Nizhniy Novgorod.
So, we are off to NN. Sveta said she would be meeting us at the hotel around 5:00. Then, we will be off to see Father Mario for a key to the apartment for the week. We will rest for the night and then to the passport office to pay a fine for the wrong visa.
