I woke up this morning to the sound of Angelo calling for Daddy from his crib. After Kenny picked him up and brought him to our bed for weekend morning playtime that Angelo and Vincent cherish with their daddy, I stated aloud to the boys, "I wonder what Julianna's doing today?" For a moment I envisioned our Sunday ahead, - a traditional family breakfast, Mass at Holy Name of Jesus, taking a walk outside on our quiet street with the kids or alone with Kenny, some laundry and possibly grocery shopping - and then I heard Kenny say, "It's probably the same routine as every other day." My heart became instantly sad as I thought about little Julianna innocently thinking "Is today the day Mommy and Daddy are coming back?" only to be saddened and maybe disappointed to end her day knowing that it wasn't today that we were to return.
Kenny and I are so hopeful that Julianna continues to do well in her current environment! We pray that her caregivers continue to look after her in a special way until we can come and get her. Our comfort is in knowing that she has the memories that we shared those four days and pictures to help her. We also know that Sveta promised to check in on her and ask about her for us.
We also know that the other 179 children, whom the institution refers to as "inmates", will probably never have a Mommy and Daddy to look forward to seeing some day. Kenny and I knew when we went to look for Julianna that we couldn't adopt all these children. I guess somewhere in the depths of my heart I want to believe that our coming to adopt Julianna as we are doing has brought HOPE for all these children. And maybe, somewhere down the road, by following God's call to go find Julianna and adopt her, these other children will somehow also be changed.
If anyone is interested in knowing more details about the Children's Home we visited and how you might be able to help, please feel free to contact us via our contact page on this website.
Please continue to pray, not for only the successful completiton of our adoption of Julianna, but also for all the fragile souls in the Children's Home and other homes like the one we visited. This is the most important thing that anyone can do!
Until later....
Annie
