As we spend another day preparing for our departure, taking care of the last minute details, I would be remiss not to remember how we got here and the people that have helped us along the way. I was reminded of Reeces Rainbow, the website that first introduced us to Julianna and this adventure, when I read today's scripture passage from the daily calendar that Sr. Rita gave me for a gift. The passage is this "...The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same." Luke 3:11.
Reeces rainbow is an international ministry for children with Down Syndrome. The organization works as a connector between families and children in need. They are not an adoption agency, but rather, work with many adoption agencies who have the files of these children with Down Syndrome. Andrea Roberts, the executive director, started the organization four years ago as a tribute to her biological child, Reece, who was born with Down Syndrome. The organization raises funds to help defray costs for families by offering grants for children on their site.
Kenny and I read the organization's website daily, looking at the children in need, and praying for the families who are connecting to these kids. I did notice that there are a number of children with sizable grants connected to them, for those people who are considering the adoption process.
Even if you are not interested in adopting a child, this site is an eye opening experience (and addicting for some of us). There are many children who have found forever families, but there are many more who still need a family. Please keep these children in your prayers...maybe you know someone who is interested in adopting. You can also be a "prayer warrior" for a specific child. There are lots of ways to support these children w/o actually adopting one of them.
We will be forever grateful to the Dinello family for telling us about Reeces Rainbow. At the end of our rainbow, we have found a little pot of gold, named Julianna.
