After twenty-four hours of travelling without Kenny on this trip to Russia to bring our Julianna home, I am finally able to more accurately describe my feelings about this venture. Let me start by saying it's not that I don't like Russia; this time, I have come for the purpose of doing whatever it takes to bring Julianna home - Chicken pox, smog, the wrong visa - et.al. Having been to this particular section of the city, Nizhniy Novgorod, does give me a great deal of comfort; however, I would be remiss if I said I liked travelling solo. Yes, it is true that Dominic is with me, and yes, he is 17 years old. Dom is great with all the technology stuff and really is low maintenance when it comes to food and all those self-help independent skills. So far, he's demonstrated a great aptitude for carrying "the electronic/special papers bag."
So what is different this time? It's just not the same without Kenny. Kenny and I would plan the questions that we had to ask Sveta on skype or the next day. Whatever I missed, he remembered and often visa-versa. Dom is a great travelling companion; he hasn't learned how to finish my sentences (yet). And for him...this Russian stuff is all new.
I mentioned to Sveta that she will see a more serious side of me this time because I have to be thinking about all the stuff that we need to do, how much money we need to get changed, where we are going to get the next water, how to get to Moscow, and where we are going to stay. Thanks be to God, I have received some divine interevention and remote help from Kenny on a few of these.
All in all, I can tell you that this trip has reminded me that I do not want to be single again. This experience would be more ardous than it has been, especially on some of the tough days, if I were doing this as a single person. I could also say that certainly would not have been as fun without Kenny!
As I know and believe, God is in charge anyway. So, I will try to relax...a little!
