One of the best decisions Kenny and I made nine years ago was to find the Hummelstown pool. We had been living here for five or six years at the time, and had been giving our kids swimming lessons every summer from a neighboring pool that offered American Red Cross swimming lessons. This particular summer, Kenny and I decided to find the Hummelstown pool and get lessons for our kids. As it turned out, in one phone call of inquiry, our kids would not be taking lessons, but would be joining a "swim team"...something that neither one of us had any experience with at the time. Quickly we learned what it meant to be on a swim team and we've been hooked ever since. Our three oldest children are proficient swimmers, and they swim competitively. Vincent is not far behind with his love of the water; he also swims competitively! Vinnie knows everyone at the pool since he grew up there beginning the year he was born.
Tonight, we took the kids to the pool for a couple of hours. Angelo loves the water, as he too, has grown up around the water. He jumps in fearlessly. Kenny and I both work with him to encourage him to move his arms under the water and kick. He is not afraid to put his face in the water. He actually blows bubbles in the water!
So, when our little Julianna comes, she will become a pool rat, too. The nice thing about the facility is that there are swings for the children and a big sandbox. There are basketball courts, tennis courts, pavillions, and other amenities that families can use at no cost. We know that Julianna will love going to the pool because there is so much to do there. At least she'll love the sandbox, as this is something that she enjoys doing at the Children's Home.
We'll be getting a couple of swimsuits for her in the next week or so, as when Julianna arrives, most of the suits will be gone....summer will be half over. Julianna's life with us will be just beginning!
