Meeting up with Sveta at the airport was like seeing one of our good friends whom we have not seen in 3 months. Although we waited for her and Dimetri to arrive, we busied ourselves with blogging and pictures. During the only 15 seconds that I looked away, Sveta walked up in front of where I was sitting. I was happy to see her, but a little disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to record her reaction to the amount of luggage that we brought. Kenny and I knew that Sveta would be shocked by what we were toting with us this time.
Two large overweight suitcases and a huge duffle bag were all pieces that we checked in Harrisburg. The Holy Spirit did a little work in Harrisburg with the check in guy. He allowed us to take the luggage without having to pay the extra fee for being overweight. (That was miracle number one!) We each carried a carry-on piece of luggage and a personal bag. Kenny used a big briefcase for documents, the mini notepad, and the camera. I took the largest purse that I could find!
So when Sveta saw us…she was aghast! We had been thinking that Dimetri would bring his Volkswagon Jetta and we would be a little confined. Sveta explained that she brought her car, a much smaller Suzuki SX4. A tight squeeze allowed us to put the two big suitcases in the back hatch with the cover off the hatch. Next to me in the seat was the duffle bag and Kenny’s carry on luggage. We plopped our personal bags on top of those while Kenny and I cuddled in the back seat. Svetlana had Dimetri drive in Moscow and home. Under her feet on the passenger side was my pink carryon luggage and her computer bag, backpack, and purse. Svetlana’s feet were on the dash or cross-legged most of the ride. Her shoes were under the seat. I had the luxury of stretching out my legs between the bucket seats. Honestly, I can’t ever remember being so cramped in a vehicle. At one point it was so warm, Kenny and to take off his shirt.
We laughed, took some pictures and videos, and slept intermittently until we got to NN. Dimetri felt bad that he didn’t bring his car…but it was ok with us!! We were safe and now have some great memories from the trip!
