Today's swim meet was a huge success! Did we win? Absolutely not! We swam against one of the strongest club teams in the state. The question that begs is, "then how could it be a huge success?" Let me tell you...
Each of our four oldest children are members of the swim team. Vincent, our 8 year old, had an awesome day in all four of the events he swam. Not only could he swim to the end of the pool successfully, but Vinnie swam his best time in both 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke (the stroke he likes the least...or so he says). He was on fire in both of his relays where he swam free in medley and lead-off in the freestyle relay at the end. Wow! What a great day for Vincent.
Now that alone is a reason to say the meet was a huge success. At one point during the meet, Francesca came to me and said, "I don't even know why we swim today, since they always win." My response was..."You should always swim to get your personal best time. Not to win. Winning is secondary. If you get your personal best...you win." She looked at me, nodded and went on to swim her personal best in the 100 free. This is just another reason why today's meet was successful.
Gabby put in another grand performance today in her events. She swam her personal best in Individual Medley, the event that she would rather "not" swim. Again, another reason to say that today's meet was successful.
Dominic...well, what can I say.? Dominic says he is only swimming this summer because Mom is making him. Yet, somehow, he goes to practice everyday and has a good time at the meets. I think it's the 17 year old in him wanting to be independent. Dom was permitted to go to a concert yesterday and got home late. His performance today was not his personal best...but 24 seconds for the 50 free is not too shabby for a kid that is tired. Another reason to claim success for today's meet.
Kenny and I were together with Angelo and our swimmers for over six hours today at the same event,. The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze. No one was injured. Everyone was healthy. Our hunger was satisfied and thirst was quenched. It was a successful meet!
The only thing we were missing was the little deep-voiced giggle of a sweet precious eight year old girl named Julianna who is waiting for her mommy and daddy to come to get her! Her giggle, her smile, her whole person...we can't wait to take Julianna to the swim meets with us! This will be success!
